Wedding season is over, but there are always tasks to keep your business moving along. The end of the year is the time for celebration and cheer because everyone works so hard throughout the wedding season. It’s important to take time to celebrate everything that you accomplished (big and small), acknowledge those that were part of your success and take time to relax.
1. VENDOR CHEER - Spread some holiday cheer to your vendors. This can be as simple as sending holiday cards, or if you need some extra time send New Year’s cards. It’s always fun to receive something festive in the mail. For your most important vendor partners, a small gift is a way to stand out. Try to personalize these gifts from you (or your company) to each vendor. For example, if your favorite photographer has a sweet tooth, send a box of chocolates. If you work for a venue that is a winery, send a bottle of your wine to the vendors that are on your preferred vendor's list.
2. CELEBRATE YOU - As wedding pros, we are constantly celebrating other people. It’s important to take time to both celebrate and take care of yourself. Be sure to set aside time for you to celebrate the end of the wedding season and all that you accomplished this year. If you love food, plan a dinner date with your spouse or best friends. Spend a few days on a stay-cation. Wedding guests and clients are always enjoying the fun activities of your area and the end of the year is the perfect time for you to enjoy those activities yourself. Another well-deserved celebration is a spa day to unwind and re-energize.
3. APPRECIATE STAFF - It takes a whole team to pull off a successful wedding day. Even if you don’t have full-time staff, you probably have your regular assistants and contract help. Don’t forget to appreciate them at the end of the year. For a more extensive staff team, you could have a fun holiday party, but all teams can enjoy a dinner out at a favorite restaurant or group activity such as wine tasting, pedicures or an arts and crafts class together. If appropriate, consider a monetary bonus at the end of the year for your most valuable staff members.
Now that you have some ideas for how to celebrate the end of the year it's time to put them into action. Pick one celebration for each category, schedule it on your calendar and make it happen. You’ll be glad you did, plus at the end the year you will be feeling excited and accomplished. Your vendors, you and your staff, will all end the year feeling appreciated and ready for next one.
